Highford
Farm is a splendid Victorian Model Farm created in the 1800s around an
existing farm whose core buildings are thought to be mediaeval. The farm
buildings are now Grade2 listed and converted to holiday cottages. If
you would like a holiday in a rural, unspoilt, relatively isolated area,
this is for you ! Click each building on the picture for more information. Highford Farm lies
between Clovelly and Hartland on the Hartland Peninsula in an Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), in the Coastal Protection Zone and in a
special area for biodiversity.
It is surrounded by the farmland it used to serve - sadly the farm was
split up in 2000. In
Victorian times there was great prestige associated with owning land and
it's owner, Mr John Berriman set about displaying his wealth and influence
by enhancing his farm with modern innovations and decorative building
work. Most of this survives and the buildings are now Grade2 listed. |
